​Getting into AI safety: What I've learned from 80+ career calls

Over the three years Yanni has run AI Safety ANZ and TARA, he has done 80+ 1-on-1 career calls with people trying to break into technical AI safety. He's spotted patterns, recurring mistakes, and some ideas that he thinks are worth sharing with everyone.

​About the speaker:

​Yanni is the Founder and Director of TARA (Technical Alignment Research Accelerator). Yanni previously co-founded and led AI Safety Australia & New Zealand, where he ran TARA v1, the AI Safety Careers Conference, launched Australia's first AI safety co-working space, and built monthly meetups across six cities. Before AI safety, Yanni spent a decade in marketing and strategy at LinkedIn, News Corp, Spark Wave, and various agencies. He has also served on advisory boards for Giving What We Can, RESULTS International, and The Deli Women & Children's Centre.

​About TARA

​The Technical Alignment Research Accelerator (TARA) is a 14-week part-time program that builds technical AI safety skills for talent across the Asia-Pacific region (APAC). Twice a year (March-June and September-December), participants work through the ARENA curriculum via full-day Saturday sessions plus 2-7 hours of independent learning during the week.
