Building an alternative to the traditional employer health plan: Included Health company briefing and Q&A with co-founder & CEO Owen Tripp

​Included Health recently announced the launch of Included Health Plans following its acquisition of Firefly Health, an advanced primary care provider with its own clinically integrated health plan. Firefly started as a virtual primary care provider and built its own alternative health plan capability around that primary care offering. It serves more than 20,000 people nationwide through a network of over 2,300 in-person, in-home and specialty care partners, and reports more than 15% total cost of care savings across its ASO book of business against a risk-adjusted benchmark.

​HTN spoke with Owen after Included's January announcement, when he reported traction among employers for Included's flavor of alternative plan design. Since then, concerns about the employer-sponsored insurance market have only grown louder, and activity in alternative health plans has picked up. Integrating clinical care looks like a good way to drive higher engagement and manage outcomes with members, historically a key challenge in this market. We'll get into where alternative health plans are headed for employers and how care navigation and primary care fit together in Included's model.
