Jhourney: Intro to the jhanas
What if meditation wasn't just about stress relief — but about accessing some of the most profound states of joy and deep equanimity a human mind can experience?
The Jhānas are meditative absorption states that ancient traditions have known about for millennia — and that modern practitioners are now rediscovering. Traditionally thought to take years of dedicated practice, these states of extraordinary well-being turn out to be far more accessible than most people expected. Those who've experienced them struggle to find the right words: "Up there with beautiful events like marriage." "Why would I have a second piece of chocolate cake when I can beat that by 100x in 10 minutes with my eyes closed?"
Join us for an evening with Jhourney to find out what all the fuss is about.
The evening will be a blend of guided meditations and Q&A covering what the Jhānas actually are and how to begin accessing them. We'll also explore a special form of social meditation, "Jhourneying", that can create a field of resonance allowing faster and deeper meditative absorption.
This evening is for Jhourney alumni, friends of alumni, and anyone who's Jhāna-curious. No experience required, just bring an open mind.
Hosted in a private home in Berkeley. Sliding scale tickets available, which go toward refreshments for the evening.
