On 20th August 2026, join The Hybrid Tours in collaboration with Rida Ali for a conversation and activity-led session on why history, travel, and storytelling can't be separated from one another. We'll discuss how modern travel is often shaped by an exploitative, colonial gaze, and how storytelling can either reinforce that thinking or actively resist it.
We'll also discuss how travel can be a vehicle for heritage revival for the diaspora, to reconnect people to place, memory, and identity, and how even that reconnection can be shaped by a colonial lens if we're not intentional about whose story is being told.

Introducing Rida Ali
Rida Ali is a Pakistani American journalist, digital storyteller, and historian whose work explores South Asian history, identity, and collective memory through a decolonial lens. Through her travels across Pakistan, she encourages audiences to approach place through education rather than extraction, centering local histories, communities, and relationships instead of treating them as backdrops. Her work asks how travel and storytelling can help diaspora communities reconnect with heritage in more thoughtful and responsible ways.
