Sovereign AI: What is it and why does it matter?

​Artificial intelligence tools are quickly becoming part of the digital infrastructure organisations depend on. But who controls these tools, where does the data go and how easily could you move to an alternative?

​In this practical session, Simon from Agile Collective will introduce the idea of digital sovereignty, then explore what it means for artificial intelligence (AI).

​We’ll look at the risks organisations should consider, including data protection, reliance on a small number of global technology companies, a lack of transparency and the potential loss of control over important systems and information.

​This is not about rejecting AI. It is about understanding the choices organisations are making and finding practical ways to retain more control.

​Simon will explore some of the alternatives, from open-source AI models to tools that can be hosted in the UK or Europe. He’ll also demonstrate practical examples, including how sovereign AI tools can work with Drupal.
