About Event

A Byron Tech Meetup evening of lightning talks, conversation, and community.

This one's all about getting practical: how are we actually using AI in their businesses, day to day?

Join us for an evening of short, punchy lightning talks from operators, founders, and builders sharing the real story. What they've tried, what's working, what flopped, and what they'd do differently.

There'll be plenty of time before and after the talks to meet new people, catch up with familiar faces, and trade notes. Food and drinks are available to purchase on the night (see food pre-order details below).

Lightning talk speakers

  • Richard Bremner, CTO & Co-founder, TaluxIQ

  • Matt Peters, Global CRO Lead, Koala

  • Sean Cornell, MD of Educare

  • Tania Clarke, Fractional Product Marketer

Each speaker will share a short, focused talk on how they're using AI in their own work. The specific tools, workflows, wins, and lessons.

Food: please pre-order when you RSVP

The team at the distillery have asked us to pre-order food, so when you register please select your food choice. You'll pay on the day. Options are:

  • Pulled Pork Burger, $22. 8 hour smoked pulled pork, fennel slaw, pickled onion, cheese, brioche roll.

  • Smoked Mushroom Burger, $20. Portobello mushroom, chimichurri, confit garlic, fennel slaw, cheese, brioche roll.

  • Smoked Chicken Wings, $15. Brined and smoked chicken wings with your choice of smokey BBQ or Frank's Hot Sauce, served with pickled onions.

Drinks are available to purchase from the distillery bar on the night.

About the speakers:

Richard Bremner, CTO & Co-founder, TaluxIQ
Rich Bremner has spent 20+ years building and leading engineering teams across SaaS, AI, fintech, ecommerce, and pretty much every flavour of startup chaos — from seed-stage scrappy to enterprise serious. He's been a Director of Engineering, a Head of Engineering, a Co-Founder, a Fractional CTO, and most recently the founder of TaluxIQ, where he's building agentic AI for the gloriously unglamorous world of freight forwarding. He writes about the messy intersection of people and technology on his Substack Context Switch, and when he's not shipping software he's usually getting his motorbike covered in mud somewhere.

Tania Clarke, Fractional Product Marketer
Tania has spent 12+ years in product marketing building product marketing functions inside B2B SaaS: Atlassian, early days of SafetyCulture, and Qwilr. She's passionate about the strategic role PMM plays in how startups actually grow: getting the foundations right, understanding customers deeply enough that the GTM motion targets with precision instead of spray-and-pray. These days she's doing that as a fractional professional and building AI-powered systems that turn customer research into pipeline. When she's not deep into AI marketing, and writing about GTM, she's raising her 3-year-old in the suburbs of Brisbane.

Sean Cornell, MD of Educare (educare.com.au) - Compliance and Management Tooling for Early Education

Australia’s Early Education sector is undergoing major regulatory reform. Sean’s experience operating and advising early education services in the Northern Rivers and the UK led to his decision to develop tooling to support services to streamline management and evidence their regulatory compliance.

Matt Peters is the Global CRO Lead at Koala, where he runs experimentation and conversion strategy for one of Australia's best-known brands. A Northern Rivers local, Matt has spent the better part of a decade inside Koala — starting as a web designer back in 2016, moving into digital product management, and now leading CRO globally after a stint as a Senior Merchant Success Manager at Shopify. In between, he was a part of the founding team at MILKRUN, the much-loved (and much-missed) rapid grocery delivery startup.

Matt's sharing the story behind his Cowork setup, what it looked like at its peak, what triggered him to stop maintaining it, and how the new wave of AI tools and features have quietly papered over all the workarounds he'd built into his OS. It's an honest take on the maintenance cost of "great tools," and a look at how he actually uses AI today
