WILDCARD! True Stories Told Live By YOU (Aug 19)
βWILDCARD! True Stories Told Live By You, An Open Mic Story Swap presented by In a Nutshell Storytelling
βHey, Sacramento. We're back. ποΈ
βWILDCARD! is happening Wednesday, August 19, and we really, truly want you there.
βHere's how this works now: eight names get pulled from the NOT HAT. Eight storytellers get up and tell their truth with craft and intention. And at the end of the night, the storytellers themselves vote for their favorite story. The winner takes home $50 and a featured spot at the next show.
βIt's part open mic, part StorySLAM, part something Sacramento has never quite seen before. And it keeps getting better.
βTrue stories, told live, by you. With stakes! We love it.
βOur Featured Storyteller:
βVictoria Goldblattβ Victoria has been performing for over 20 years as an actor, playwright, and writer. She's worked in film, commercials, community theater, storytelling, and voice-overs, and has won awards for her original work β including Best Director and People's Choice for her play I Doubt It. She's also the former Casting Director for Stories on Stage Sacramento and a Neuroscience, Health, and Fitness Consultant, which is possibly the most interesting combination of credentials we've ever put on a WILDCARD poster.
βHer story for August 19th is about the day everything changed; a collision of the spiritual and the deeply personal that she's asked us not to spoil. So we won't. What we will say is: you're going to want to be in the room for this one.
βAnd of course, the NOT HAT.
βEight storytellers drawn from the hat. Eight minutes. True stories. Come early to sign up β spots fill fast.
βSome people tell their first story at WILDCARD. Others come back month after month to stretch their craft, compete for the prize, or just be part of a room where humans actually listen to each other.
βEither way, you belong here.
β"Anyone can step up to the mic. All we ask is that you step up with intention." β THEE Amy Bee
βYour Nutshell Three:
βKeith Lowell Jensen: host and storytelling comedian who has been making Sacramento laugh and think for longer than he'd probably like us to mention. He holds the night together like it's the easiest thing in the world. It is not.
βAmy Bee: creator, producer, co-host, and the woman who decided Sacramento needed something like this badly enough to actually build it herself.
βAaron Carnes: the emotional backbone of WILDCARD and, according to Amy Bee, an absolute treat to look at. He would like you to know he is also a published author and music journalist. We know, Aaron. We know.
βπ Wednesday, Aug 19 | 7pm (doors at 6pm β come early to sign up and put your name in the NOT HAT!) π Teneral Cellars | 1050 20th St #110, Midtown Sacramento ποΈ $15 in advance or door
βTeneral is a beautiful wine tasting room in the heart of Midtown. Come early, get a glass, settle in. Stay after and keep talking. The night doesn't have to end when the stories do.
βWe are building something wonderful here in Sacramento. Come help us build it.
βπ August's Optional Theme: You're Not Gonna Believe This, But...
βA jumping-off point for anyone who wants one. But the NOT HAT is always open to any true, personal story. No theme required. The most unexpected stories are often the best ones.
βA note on craft:
βStories are true, personal, and told live. We strongly encourage telling without notes; thereβs something that happens when a story lives in your body rather than on a page. But we welcome every storyteller as they are. What we always ask for is intention. Show up ready to share something real. Practice it. Polish it. PERFORM IT!
