Engineering the Physical World with AI

Join us on Wednesday, October 14 for a wide-ranging conversation on how AI is changing the way we engineer physical systems and products. We’ll explore what happens when AI can reason about behavioral and spatial aspects of engineering problems, navigate vast design spaces, use complex engineering tools, and work alongside human engineers.

Featuring perspectives from venture, industry, and academia, the evening will feature two fireside chats: Lila Tretikov in conversation with Paul Eremenko, and Kosa Goucher-Lambert in conversation with Cyril Picard.

Lila Tretikov

Lila Tretikov is a general partner and head of AI strategy at NEA. She previously served as Deputy CTO at Microsoft, working across AI, hyperscale computing, data centers, and energy, and earlier led the Wikimedia Foundation as CEO. Her career spans the intersection of AI, infrastructure, and complex real-world systems. Lila has been named one of Forbes’ Top 100 Most Powerful Women, a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, an NACD 100 Board Director, and a distinguished alumna of the University of California, Berkeley.

Kosa Goucher-Lambert

Kosa Goucher-Lambert is an associate professor of mechanical engineering at UC Berkeley and leads the Cognition and Computation in Design (Co-Design) Lab. His research sits at the intersection of engineering design, AI, and human-computer interaction, exploring how people and computational systems can work together to design better products and engineered systems. His group develops and studies human–AI design tools, generative and multimodal AI for conceptual design, design automation, and AI-assisted engineering decision-making.

Paul Eremenko

Paul Eremenko is co-founder and CEO of P-1 AI, where he is building Archie, an AI engineer for the physical world. Previously, he was previously CTO of Airbus and of United Technologies Corporation, a senior executive at DARPA, Motorola, and Google, and co-founder and CEO of Universal Hydrogen Co. He holds degrees from MIT, Caltech, and Georgetown, and is also a licensed pilot.

Cyril Picard

Cyril Picard is head of intelligence engineering at P-1 AI, where he leads AI research and AI engineering behind Archie, the company’s AI engineer for the physical world. Previously, he was a research scientist at MIT’s DeCoDE Lab, developing AI and computational methods for engineering design. He was also postdoc at ETH Zürich and got his PhD from EPFL. His work spans AI, optimization, simulation, and the design of complex physical systems.

Schedule
