Andy Acker
Andy Acker began practicing Buddhism in 1999 and received an Interdisciplinary B.A. in Contemplative Psychology, Religion, and Music from Naropa University in 2005. Ordained in 2017 as a Soto Zen Priest in the lineage of Kobun Chino Otagawa, he completed a monastic training period at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center in 2019 and has lectured on Buddhism and presented meditation for community organizations, contemplative centers, and university settings. Andy also has a Master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and loves to bridge the worlds of well-being, fitness, philosophy, music, and writing with dharma practice and study: including how newer discoveries in neuroscience, somatics, and psychology offer us opportunities to meet meditation with modern insights. A practitioner of Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism as well as Zen, Andy finds that meditation comes alive in a fresh way when sharing how the constant invitation of the present moment, as it already is, can vibrantly illuminate how we show up in our everyday lives.
Rebecca D. Nie
Rebecca Nie is a Stanford alum and Zen Master of the Korean Jogye Order. Her lineage of enlightenment traces 80 generations back to the historical Buddha. Z.M. Rebecca started formal training under Zen Master Venerable Hwasun Yangil Sunim, an Elder of the Jogye Order, as an undergraduate. She founded the Stanford Zen Society and was a co-chair of the Buddhist Community at Stanford during her graduate studies. Z.M. Rebecca served the spiritual communities at Stanford for over a decade, first being a student volunteer and now as a chaplain-affiliate. She is also the founding abbot of M.V. Seon Sanctuary, with a mission to share Asia's time-tested liberation practices to heal and uplift the global community. Z.M. Rebecca finds herself spending more and more time practicing and sharing Zen's wisdom tradition these days. The more she works in this capacity, the more Zen helps her with relationships, productivity, and other facets of life.
