​Climate education experiential workshop, guided nature walk and focused group discussion for formal and non-formal educators

​The proposed educator workshop at Tholkappia Poonga is designed to immerse around 100 formal and non‑formal educators in practical, place‑based and nature‑based approaches and activities on climate education. The program includes three activities.

​1. A guided nature walk led by the Pitchandikulam team, where participants engage in simple observation prompts and activities that reconnect them with their immediate environment. This allows teachers to feel firsthand how place‑based learning can spark curiosity and deepen ecological understanding.

​2. A climate education workshop presents four real classroom cases where educators have successfully integrated climate themes into everyday teaching. By sharing both successes and challenges, the session builds confidence and equips participants with adaptable strategies.

​3. An open floor focused group discussion then provides space for reflective dialogue, enabling teachers to exchange ideas on integrating climate education across subjects and contexts.
Complementing these sessions, climate games and experiential learning activities demonstrate how playful, interactive methods can make climate concepts engaging and memorable for children.

By the end of the event, participants will have developed a practical understanding of why climate education matters, gained classroom‑ready tools to embed it into existing subjects, and experienced how place‑based and cross‑disciplinary approaches make learning relevant and inspiring. The desired impact is that teachers leave feeling motivated rather than overwhelmed, confident in at least one activity they can implement immediately, and connected to a community of peers experimenting with similar approaches. This collective experience aims to seed a stronger network of educators committed to building climate literacy and resilience in classrooms.
