About Event

Join us for an intimate salon-style, culturally expansive conversation with Dr. Rachel Hardeman and Dr. Resmaa Menakem discussing the right to exist beyond performance. Drawing from Dr. Hardeman's scholarship and her more recent writing on humanity, accountability, and public unmaking, the evening asks what freedom, belonging, care, pleasure, and dignity look like when Black people are no longer required to earn them.

Again and again, the research returns us to the Black body: how it is seen, disciplined, protected, denied care, expected to perform, and too often granted dignity only when it proves exceptional, useful, or beyond reproach.

Dr. Hardeman is best known for a decade-plus body of research examining how structural racism shapes Black maternal and reproductive health. Her scholarship has helped change how the country understands inequity in care, but the deeper questions emerging from that work have never belonged to health care alone.

Tickets are available on a sliding scale with a suggested donation of $10-$15 including a free community option for those experiencing hardship.

We kindly ask that you make a purchase to support the space which allows for more community events. Thank you for your support. 🙏🏾
