Flip the Switch: The 158th
The Italian Heritage Parade has been running since 1868.
It's the oldest civic celebration in San Francisco and the longest continuously running Italian parade in the country. It starts at Jefferson and Powell at 12:30, comes down Columbus, and finishes in Washington Square in front of Saints Peter and Paul.
Which means it finishes at our corner.
The church went up in 1924. The doors from that build are standing on our western wall — we turned them into the confessional booths. In January 1954, Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio had their wedding pictures taken on those steps. Same doors.
We open at 11, which we almost never do. Come early, get a seat at the window, and watch the whole parade arrive.
