COCOON - An Orchestra Sleepover Concert
The Experience ~~~
COCOON is San Francisco’s first ever orchestra sleepover concert - an invitation to spend a historic night immersed in strings, winds, horns, percussion and voice 🎶
You will be sleeping on a camping cot arranged in a cocoon-like formation while members of the Magik*Magik Orchestra perform all around you.
Celebrate 18 years of Magik*Magik Orchestra and let us serenade you into restful slumber together in community 💙
Thank you to Sports Basement for your partnership in making this happen!
Thank you to our official media sponsor KEXP!
The Low Down ~~~
9:30 PM: doors open, giving you time to enjoy a warm welcome beverage, choose and settle into your cozy sleeping space, and prepare to rest into the evening. We highly recommend you to arrive already dressed in your Pjs as changing space is limited on site.
Thank you to Keith's Cacao for providing our welcome beverage!
10:30 PM: the orchestra will open with a one-hour concert featuring music by some of Magik*Magik's favorite collaborators including Zoë Keating, Hauschka, Dustin O'Halloran, Death Cab for Cutie, Christina Vantzou, and more.
Around 11:30 PM, the concert gently transitions into a guided meditation designed to prepare everyone for sleep. Please turn off your phone at this time, to be fully present and to relax.
Starting at midnight, soloists from Magik will take turns performing continuously for 7 hours. Musicians will be embedded amongst the sleeping guests, performing meditative improvisations over ambient pieces created especially for COCOON by Christina Vantzou.
As dawn approaches, 11 members of the orchestra will slowly return, one by one, culminating in a final sunrise performance composed by Minna Choi.
Timed precisely with the official sunrise in San Francisco, this 26-minute orchestral work will reach its final note at 7:01 AM, the moment the sun rises over the city on September 27, 2026. Like the sunrise itself on this specific morning, this composition will only be performed one time and never again.
Welcome to COCOON 🎻💙🎻

FAQs
Who is this event for? Come exactly as you are. Together, we'll create a safe, intimate space where you can soften, breathe, and surrender to gorgeous orchestral music. Whether you choose to sit in stillness, close your eyes, reflect, or simply listen, there is no right way to participate. Our hope is that you'll leave feeling inspired, rested and stoked to be alive and in community.
Where will I be sleeping? Each guest will have their own comfortable sleeping cot (rented from Sports Basement) with a fresh top sheet for the evening. Cot selection is available on a first-come, first-served basis upon arrival. They will be arranged in a cocoon like formation allowing for musicians to play directly next to you while you sleep. Please note the cots can support up to 300 lbs and are 2 feet wide x 6'3" long.
Thank you Sports Basement!
What should I wear? Wear your coziest pajamas or comfortable sleepwear. We recommend dressing in layers so you can adjust to your preferred temperature throughout the evening. Long pants, T-shirts, sweaters or pullovers, warm socks, and slippers are all great options.
What should I bring? A pillow and sleeping bag. Comfortable pajamas or sleepwear. A refillable water bottle. Any personal comfort items you typically use for sleep such as an eye mask or hugging pillow.
Where can I keep my valuables? We encourage you to bring only what you need for a restful evening. There will be space to store your bag, water bottle, and personal belongings underneath your cot. COCOON staff and musicians will be present throughout the experience. While we strive to create a safe environment, guests are responsible for their personal belongings.
What do I do with my phone? You're welcome to use your phone until the opening concert concludes at 11:30 p.m. Afterward, we'll transition into a guided meditation before the overnight sleep concert begins. To preserve the peaceful atmosphere for everyone, we kindly ask that all phones be turned off and put away for the remainder of the evening.
Are photos and videos permitted? You're welcome to take photos before and during the opening 10:30pm performance. Once we transition into the guided meditation and overnight sleep portion, please turn phones and cameras off so everyone can fully immerse themselves in the experience. Professional photographers and videographers will be documenting the evening, and we'll share those images with attendees afterward.
Will I be filmed/photographed while sleeping? Professional photographers and videographers will be documenting the evening to capture the live performance. Footage may include wide-angle and aerial shots of the overall experience and space. However, there will be no close-up shots of individual faces or participants while they are sleeping.
What should I not bring? Please bring only what you'll need for a comfortable night of music and rest. We recommend leaving valuables and unnecessary belongings at home whenever possible.
