Guided nature walk to introduce urban biodiversity

A guided nature walk designed to help citizens discover and appreciate the biodiversity that exists around us even in the middle of our cities.

Urban spaces are often thought of as concrete landscapes, but gardens, roadside trees, lakes, wetlands, vacant plots and green spaces support a surprising variety of birds, butterflies, insects, plants, reptiles and other wildlife. Through this walk, participants will learn to observe and identify common urban species, understand their roles in the ecosystem, and recognise how closely our everyday lives are connected to urban nature.

The activity will also highlight why protecting urban biodiversity matters for a healthier and more resilient city. Trees and green spaces help reduce heat, improve air quality, support pollinators, manage rainwater and provide essential habitats for wildlife. Most importantly, the walk aims to change the way people look at their own surroundings.

By introducing citizens to the biodiversity living alongside them, we hope to build curiosity, appreciation and a sense of responsibility towards protecting and creating greener, more climate-friendly cities.
