Where the Jobs Are: Inclusive AI and the Rural Economy

​Rural and peri-urban economies are rich in talent, entrepreneurship and local knowledge, yet often lack the connections between technology, markets and capital required to create sustainable livelihoods.

​Co-organised by Rubanomics and Sambhav Foundation, this session explores whether AI can become a bridge between rural communities and economic opportunity, reducing barriers of language, literacy and access while enabling new pathways for employment, entrepreneurship and enterprise creation. With the emergence of platforms such as JanAI, India offers a real-world test case: can AI move beyond improving access and become a tool for income generation and economic participation? Together, we will examine what it will take for inclusive AI to translate into jobs, viable micro-enterprises and investable rural economies, and how learnings from India can inform South-South cooperation on inclusive growth.
