Solid Waste Management - Webinar

About this session

Join us for a conversation on Solid Waste Management for 2026 with Ashwin Malwade, a solid waste management and plastic pollution expert with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and Director at Waste Matters Foundation, a Mumbai-based NGO working to protect Elephanta Island through community action, clean waste infrastructure, and a zero-landfill commitment.

A Master Mariner by training, Ashwin's years at sea gave him a firsthand look at how plastic and waste pollute our oceans, an experience that shaped his shift into waste management and environmental advocacy. He is also co-founder of Greenmyna, India's first sustainable event management company, where zero-waste execution and responsible recycling are built into every event.

As cities generate more waste each year, the systems used to segregate, track, and process it at source are becoming critical, for households, institutions, and island communities like Elephanta alike. In this session, Ashwin will walk through practical approaches to solid waste management shaping 2026, drawing from his on-ground experience building systems that actually work.
