How Designers Can Build and Ship UI with AI
Most “design engineering” talks are written by engineers learning design.
This one runs the other way.
Sunny has spent 8+ years shipping UI/UX, motion, graphics, and advertising work. Now, his design process looks very different: less Figma, more VS Code, more Claude/Codex, and a much shorter path from rough idea to working interface.
In this session, he’ll walk through how he designs and ships UI without opening Figma for UI work, using AI coding agents as a design partner, a prototyping tool, and sometimes the person writing the layout.
This is not a talk about replacing taste with prompts. It is about bringing taste, typography, spacing, motion, and product thinking into a new workflow where the output is not a static mockup, but a working screen.
What you’ll walk away with
A live walkthrough of going from a rough idea to a working UI on screen.
Sunny’s actual VS Code setup: extensions, folder structure, prompts, and how he works with Claude or Codex
How to direct an AI agent so the UI still has intentional typography, spacing, hierarchy, and motion
How to avoid the “AI-generated dashboard” look that makes every product feel the same
A practical way to think about design engineering when you come from a design background, not an engineering one
Format
60 minutes total: talk, live walkthrough, and Q&A.
The session will be recorded and shared with everyone who registers. It will be hosted on Google Meet, and the link will be sent on the morning of the event.
7 PM IST works as an evening session for India and Europe, and a morning session for the US west coast.
If you’ve been doing interesting work in design, AI, or code and want to share a 5-minute lightning slot before Sunny goes on, mention your topic in the registration form.
What you’ll need
VS Code installed
A Claude, Codex, or similar LLM subscription if you want to follow along live
Curiosity about where design is heading
No design degree or engineering background required
