​A community-led learning programme that brings children, young people and community members together to understand local trees, forests and traditional medicinal plants, while reflecting on climate and environmental changes and the importance of protecting and passing this knowledge to future generations.

​We will organise a community-based learning programme that brings together children, young people, elders and other community members to learn about our forests, local trees and traditional plant knowledge. The programme will begin with a discussion on changes people have observed in weather, forests and the local environment, including the disappearance of trees and the impacts of forest destruction on the community's lives and surroundings.

​Participants will learn about different trees and plants found around their settlements, their ecological importance and their usefulness to the community. Community members and elders with knowledge and experience of the forest will share their experiences with children and young people. The programme will also include learning about planting and caring for suitable local tree species and understanding why some trees may be more appropriate for the local ecosystem than others.

​A community walk around the Ana Camp settlement will provide an opportunity to identify local trees, forest plants and medicinal plants. Participants will learn about the traditional uses of medicinal plants and how this knowledge has been passed from one generation to another. The activities will use practical and locally relevant materials such as real leaves, saplings, photographs, stories and community experiences.

​The programme will encourage young people to learn from elders, document local knowledge through simple notes, photographs and videos, and play an active role in protecting forests, biodiversity and traditional ecological knowledge for future generations.
