​A community-led intergenerational learning programme where tribal youth learn from elders about traditional food and fishing practices, while exploring how climate and environmental changes are affecting these knowledge systems, local biodiversity and traditional livelihoods.

​This programme will bring tribal youth and elders together to share and learn about traditional knowledge connected to food, water and livelihoods. Youth from Nelliyeri Ooru will learn from elders about traditional leaves used for cooking and food, including how they were collected, prepared and used in everyday life. The discussion will also explore how changes in rainfall, temperature, vegetation and the local environment have affected the availability of these traditional food plants.

​Youth from Narangachal Ooru and Akkalpur Ooru will learn from elders about traditional fishing practices, including seasonal fishing, local fish varieties, changes in fish availability, water levels and rainfall patterns. Elders will also share knowledge about traditional fish traps, how they were made and how they were used.

​The programme will create an important space for elders to pass traditional ecological knowledge to younger generations, while youth document these practices through notes, photographs, stories and other community-approved methods. By connecting traditional food and fishing knowledge with present-day climate and environmental changes, the event will help young people understand what is being lost, what is changing, and the importance of protecting and carrying forward their community’s knowledge, culture and relationship with nature.
