About Event

Climate is where India's private sector has moved fastest and where the Global South has the most to gain. India built solar at a cost almost nobody thought possible, and then built the manufacturing, the supply chains and the workforce to go with it. It has also built institutions to share that, including the International Solar Alliance, which now has well over a hundred member countries, most of them in the Global South.

The claim being tested here is a specific one. The UN Resident Coordinator has said publicly that India is finding ways to lift hundreds of millions of people out of poverty and that this is directly relevant to developing countries elsewhere. This session asks whether that holds for the climate transition. Does a country with a fraction of India's capital and market get the same result, or is the Indian experience harder to copy than it looks?

It also opens the jobs thread that session two picks up. The energy transition is the largest employment story in the Global South this decade, and where those jobs land is not yet decided.
