Framer build-a-thon: From idea to live portfolio page in 90 minutes.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll go from blank canvas to a live, publishable portfolio page built on real best practices, in real time.

Led by Florian Boelter, Staff Product Designer at Juro and founder of Open Doors, a community where he reviews junior designer portfolios weekly, this session is all about execution.

You’ll structure, design, refine, and publish a real portfolio page using Framer’s core capabilities and built-in Workshop component.

By the end, you won’t just understand Framer better, but you’ll have a live, expandable portfolio foundation you can keep building on.

🧠 What You’ll Learn

  • How to structure a strong portfolio page directly in Framer

  • Core Framer fundamentals: layout, hierarchy, components

  • How to create reusable components for speed and consistency

  • How to use Framer’s Workshop to build custom animated or complex elements with no coding required

🕘 Agenda

  1. Introduction & outcome setting: Overview of what makes a strong portfolio page and what will be built during the session. You'll get familiar with the Framer workflow and define the scope of your page.

  2. Structuring the page (wireframing): Use Framer’s Wireframer to create a clear page structure. Focus on defining sections, hierarchy, and layout before moving into visual design.

  3. From structure to design: Applying typography, spacing, and visual hierarchy to transform the wireframe into a refined layout. Introduction to reusable components for consistency and efficiency.

  4. Components & custom elements with Workshop: Creating reusable components and using Framer’s built-in Workshop to generate custom animated or more complex elements with no coding required.

  5. Refine & polish: Improve spacing, alignment, and interaction details to elevate the overall feel of the page and create a strong visual impression.

  6. Publish & next steps: Publish the page and discuss how to expand it into a complete portfolio after the workshop.
