A tip for those who can't attend, if you want to re-write something to get rid of EM dashes rather than saying: "Don't use EM dashes! STOP EM DASHING!"

Instead try:

"Please replace the em dashes. When you have used one, instead: split into two complete sentences wherever possible (your default); use a colon when introducing or explaining something; use commas for ordinary asides; use parentheses only for genuinely skippable ones. Favor short, declarative sentences over long ones stitched together with punctuation, and cut qualifying asides that don't earn their place."
