Commuity Call: Evaluating Decentralized Protocols
A few of us have been circling a shared question in the Metagov Slack: where do in-the-weeds technical and protocol conversations belong in Metagov? Is there appetite for a dedicated channel in the Metagov Slack to host them? Rather than just spin one up, we wanted to gauge interest and scope it together on a Community Call.
The starting point is pretty strong, as we already have several practical, evaluative tools for making sense of the decentralized-protocol landscape, including OpenHaven's protocol comparison matrix and Nathan Schneider's Protocol Bicorder.
This call would put those side by side, see how they complement one another, and use that to shape what a "protocols" channel could be.
Questions for the group:
What technical or protocol questions are you currently wrestling with (e.g., ATProto vs. Nostr vs. something else, self-hosting decisions)?
Across the many venues in this space (Slack, Discord, Mastodon servers), what is the right home for these conversations? Perhaps regular sync calls, an async channel, or both?
Could efforts like OpenHaven connect more formally with Metagov (e.g., shared governance of the tool and its underlying data)?
