Houston Text Fest: Celebrate Lit in All Forms
Nuestra Palabra: Latinos Having Their Say is proud to organize Houston Text Fest, a foundational festival with readings, panels, workshops, classes, and a market space to unite the Houston Literary Scene beginning with the most challenging to harness segment-Latino Lit.
Nuestra Palabra: Latinos Having Their Say will focus on its forte of 28 years-cultivating, quantifying, and accelerating the Latino community through literature. The fest will include an invitation to all other lit nonprofits, collectives, and individual artists to participate to get to know each other, and to work together to plan a future festival.

The Bigger Picture:
Two large book festivals in Texas are major tourism draws.
The 2025 Texas Book Festival drew over 40,000 people.
The San Antonio Book Festival draws 15,000 to 20,000 people.
Houston does not boast its own book festival.
Nuestra Palabra wants to take the next step to change that by organizing the 2026 Houston Text Fest 1. This Festival features readings, panels, workshops, classes, an open mic (open to all), and a marketspace celebrating Houston’s literary legacy in all of its forms from the page, to in person, to digital. Our goal is to accelerate the Latino Literary community, which is our forte, and invite all other literary nonprofits, collectives, and individual artists to participate and unite to plan a future festival.
NP organizes events in English, Spanish, and Spanglish, and other languages, having collaborated, for example, with the Vietnamese community for a showcase on immigration stories. We are experts in building bridges.
NP was named a 2024 Houston Cultural Treasure by the BIPOC Arts Network and Fund (BANF) and is part of the BANF CT Cohort working with art groups from many different backgrounds.
We have a clear vision for this Festival to serve as the starting point for a future large Houston Book Festival. There are many challenges that Houston faces, preventing it from already having such a festival.
Specific outcomes consist of:
a. A festival to celebrate & unite Houston’s literary community.
b. Creation of a Houston Literary Directory.
c. Portions livestreamed and formatted into a podcast for NP Broadcasts.
