30x30 Needs Local Leadership
Hosted by Fauna & Flora and RISE UP for the Ocean, this reception at the Ocean Pavilion puts the people already delivering conservation on the ground at the centre of the conversation.
Across the world, Indigenous Peoples, local communities, small-scale fishers and coastal organisations are restoring ecosystems, strengthening fisheries governance, building climate resilience and developing sustainable livelihoods. Their experience demonstrates what is possible when local leadership is recognised, trusted and supported.
Yet these voices are still too often missing from the spaces where biodiversity priorities, policies and financing are shaped.
The session will ask a different question: not how communities can deliver global targets, but how global and national systems can better support the people already delivering locally.
