Exhibition: Island on Land
Island on Land — A Landscape in Five States is an exhibition of food art, spatial installation, and film by Lang Lang and Xie Peng.
The show begins with dreams — fleeting encounters, quiet ruptures, moments that arrive without intention. Lang's film grew out of childhood memories of factories, machinery, and constant labor, and the dreams that opened out of that metallic reality; its voice-over was written after a dream about a red-crowned crane, a recurring figure in the Chinese stories she heard as a child. Xie's spatial interventions carry the film off the screen and into the rooms — metal and acrylic holding the industrial, red-painted outlines tracing the dream, the pieces joined with fastening details drawn from fashion.
Throughout, five edible states emerge as distinct presences, each with its own material, rhythm, and sensory language. The forms change through contact — tasted, touched, dissolved. Visitors do not simply observe the landscape; their presence and participation continually transform it. What remains is a trace, both material and remembered.
