This February half-term, we’re offering two one-off online Painting Club taster sessions, inspired by the work of contemporary painter Xei Lei. To make the class more accessible, the session will run twice a week - once during the day and once in the evening. Each class is the same content but runs as a separate session, so you’re welcome to choose whichever time suits you best.
These taster sessions are a relaxed way to try out our online Painting Club format, meet other painters, and see whether you’d like to join us for the next term or simply enjoy a single, focused painting class.
About the session:
We’ll take a close look at Xei Lei’s atmospheric paintings, exploring how he creates glow, depth, and mood using a limited colour palette. His work offers a rich framework for developing confidence in colour mixing, layering paint and holding back on detail.
The session begins with a short visual discussion of Xei Lei’s work, followed by a demonstration from Martha, guided painting time, and space for questions throughout.

Materials
I will be demonstrating with oils but you would also work in acrylics. The main focus is on process and colour mixing rather than medium but oils achieves a softness.
Please ensure you have a comfortable space set up beforehand where you can paint freely and get a little messy if needed.
