Mind Stretcher Ace the O-Level English Oral Exam (Part 2): Spoken Interaction Workshop with Master Teacher Steven Sim
The Spoken Interaction is where many students lose marks — not because they have nothing to say, but because they give short, safe answers that never go anywhere. The examiner asks a follow-up, and the response trails off into "I think so..." territory.
In this 2-hour workshop, Master Teacher Steven Sim shows students how to hold their own in the discussion segment — responding with substance, structure, and the kind of depth that pushes answers into the top band.
What students will learn:
✔ How to build mature, well-supported answers on the spot — using the P.E.E.R.S. framework to extend responses beyond one or two sentences into fully developed perspectives
✔ Techniques for expressing opinions clearly and persuasively — moving from "I think it's important" to answers that explain why, give evidence, and acknowledge other viewpoints
✔ Strategies for handling different question types — whether the examiner asks you to agree or disagree, compare, suggest solutions, or reflect on personal experience
✔ How to buy thinking time without awkward silence — practical phrases and bridging techniques that keep you composed while your brain catches up
✔ The shift from "answering questions" to "having a discussion" — what it looks like when a student moves beyond the prompts, and how examiners reward that initiative
Through question drills and worked examples based on real O-Level topics, students will practise thinking on their feet and delivering the kind of responses that examiners remember.
Who is this for?
Students who can get through the Planned Response but struggle when the conversation starts — and want to turn the Spoken Interaction from their weakest segment into their strongest.
