Robin Katz: ‘Hypnos’ Listening Session & Conversation
Join us at Mason & Fifth for an intimate evening celebrating Hypnos, the ethereal new album from guitarist and composer Robin Katz.
Rooted in jazz tradition yet shaped by a wide range of influences, from flamenco and bossa nova to neo-classical minimalism, funk, soul and 90s hip-hop, Katz has performed widely across the UK, collaborating with artists including Disclosure, Reuben James, Georgia Cecile, Giacomo Smith, Kourosh Kanani, the London Django Collective and Joseph Lawrence. His debut EP Oceans for Eros, created with orchestrator Guy Barker, introduced his expansive musical voice, followed by Rock Music, produced by FREEMONK.
On Hypnos, Katz embraces a quieter and more contemplative sound. Deceptively intricate nylon-string guitar lines intertwine with the warm, atmospheric textures of Hammond organ, performed by guest musician Nathanial Ledwidge, creating music that feels at once intimate and expansive, grounded and dreamlike. The album unfolds like a single breath, each composition gently leading into the next.
There will be a listening of the record in a way that invites us to inhabit it together.
Between tracks, the room will open into conversation about the music as well as the invisible things that give it life. The fears we carry in silence, the experiences that shape us, the comfort of memory, the hope that keeps returning, the beauty of uncertainty, the quiet courage of renewal. Together we’ll explore love and surrender, doubt and belonging, joy and grief, and the countless small moments that make us who we are.
There are no right answers, only stories, reflections and shared experience. Like the album itself, the conversation will ricochet between stillness and movement, allowing guests to become listeners, and listeners to become participants.
