AI × Buddhism: A Socratic Dialogue with Jansen Stovicek - Open Registration
We’re honored to welcome Jansen Stovicek (formerly Ashin Sarana) back to the Human Flourishing Floor for a reflective, Socratic-style dialogue. After nearly 16 years in robes—Sri Lanka novicehood with a BA in Buddhist Philosophy and Pali; full bhikkhu ordination in Myanmar; and five years of intensive meditation and teaching—Jansen brings lived discipline and pragmatic insight grounded in the Tipitaka and Buddhist ethical practice.
This follow-on session will open with a 30–40 minute presentation connecting Buddhist foundations—intention, right view, and compassion—to contemporary AI ethics. We’ll then move into guided discussion focused on two topics:
Whose Values? Choosing and representing AI goals in a pluralistic world: how Buddhist frames of non-harm, compassion, and skillful means inform value choice, representation, and democratic legitimacy in systems that scale.
Corrigibility and Control: Ensuring AI accepts human oversight: practical and ethical design patterns for humility, update-ability, and safe deference, seen through the lens of training, discipline, and wise restraint. Expect an evening of open inquiry rather than a lecture—space to examine trade-offs, surface real-world examples, and co-create practical outcomes that are both technically sound and human-centered.
