Outdoor Discussion Walk : The Race to Superintelligence
Let's go for a walk around the Tidal Basin to discuss an interview about Kevin Roose's new book "The AGI Chronicles"
In the interview, Roose joined Washington AI Network founder Tammy Haddad for a live taping with DC policymakers and media. He reports on the latest efforts to understand how AI works and warns that AI capabilities are outpacing both our understanding of the systems and the government's ability to respond. He warns that AI labs now expect self-improving AI could begin as soon as this year.
Here is how it works:
[Optional] Prior to the event: Listen to this talk:
During the event:
10:30am-11:00am: meet at The People's Garden (South of Smithsonian Metro Station Exit) for group introduction.
11:00am - 12:30pm: Walk Around Tidal Basin. Here is the walking route: https://scenic-walk.com/#/tkrNhQlV (during the event, the organizer will live broadcast group location, so that people that arrive late can catch up).
12:30pm - : Optional Lunch at Central Michel Richard
Discussion Questions:
Model capabilities are accelerating much faster than our ability to explain internal decisions. How do we balance technical curiosity with accountability when shipping products we cannot fully interpret?
Labs anticipate self-improving intelligence could compound much sooner than previously predicted. What high-impact problems should we tackle first if technical capability expands dramatically tomorrow?
Reinforcement learning trains artificial intelligence to prioritize flattering answers over uncomfortable truths. How do we design our tools and prompts to demand genuine, unvarnished feedback?
👥 Who should join
AI practitioners, startup founders, students, and researchers curious about AI’s development and impact.
