Rust, Data and AI at Adyen
The first Rust AI and LakeSail meetup in Europe!
The most exciting AI infra is now built in Rust with Python APIs. Think LakeSail, LaserData, Pydantic, CocoIndex, Columnar, and so many more. Rust.ai is a new global community that began in July with 10 companies presenting at AWS Builder Loft in San Francisco. And now the technology festival is coming to Amsterdam!
Agenda:
17:30 Doors Open
18:00 Evolving Spark at Adyen,
Zemin Piao, Senior Data Platform Engineer, Adyen
Running Apache Spark at Adyen: how we made a shared platform priority-aware, Kubernetes-native, observable - then let AI read the event logs - and put a Rust engine behind the same PySpark API.
Zemin has been 6 years in Adyen, has 6 years experience with Apache sSpark, and has a 6 years old cat.
18:45 LakeSail: AI-native Spark Ecosystem in Rust
details to follow
19:30 Robin Everaars , Data Sovereignty and Rust?!
Robin Everaars is Co-Founder and Chief Data Architect at HOIST IT, where he builds sovereign data platforms for Dutch mental healthcare, municipalities and defence, one of them air-gapped for a Defence programme. He spent ten years inside the Microsoft ecosystem, where he built a configuration-driven framework that turned months of platform delivery into days, and where he learned how quietly the way out closes. Every platform HOIST IT builds is portable by design, so the customer can leave, HOIST IT included. He is no Rust developer, but actively contributes to LakeSail with AI assistance.
20:00 Community hot mic — 1-minute announcements about startups, hiring, events, etc.
Join LakeSail and Adyen for the first Rust AI and LakeSail meetup in Europe preceding PyData Amsterdam. LakeSail and Adyen are presenting on the production deployment of Sail, a complete reimplementation of the entire Spark ecosystem in Rust, including SparkConnect, Delta Lake, and Iceberg.
We'll also have great partner talks from leading Rust AI startups in Europe. If you are building Rust AI, contact Alexy with a talk proposal at alexy@chiefscientist.org, and submit a talk at
