Digital identity: A solution to immigration challenges?
AI and digital solutions are increasingly being used to support immigration processes globally, from migrant representative sectors to governments in many countries. But as these tools become more embedded, they surface shared challenges around security, data sovereignty and fraud. How does government balance expedited processing with security? What does data sovereignty look like for individual applicants compared to governments? And how do we minimise fraud without creating new risks for individuals? We take participants on a journey that is relevant to any effective digital identity solution from establishing trust, verifying evidence and claims, connecting ecosystems through trust partnerships and ensuring user-controlled identity.
Inviting collaborative dialogue with participants from the public sector, industry and non-government agencies, this workshop will explore what digital identity is, how it can assist in building trust between user and provider and what the broader civic benefits of digital identity might be. While immigration will be the focus case study, we invite participants interested in digital identity generally, not only across Australia, but also globally to engage in this event.
