Responsible AI and Data Protection: Aligning Ghana’s Data Protection Act with Emerging AI Use Cases
This high-level stakeholder forum will explore how Ghana can harness the benefits of Artificial Intelligence while upholding the rights and protections guaranteed under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). As AI systems increasingly underpin services in finance, health, education, agriculture, and public administration, questions are emerging around lawful data processing, consent, transparency, accountability, and cross-border data flows.
The event will bring together regulators, policymakers, legal and compliance professionals, technologists, startups, civil society, and data controllers/processors to examine real-world AI use cases in Ghana and assess how well they align with existing data protection requirements. This meeting is expected to identify regulatory gaps, implementation challenges, and opportunities for updating internal policies, contracts, and governance frameworks.
Key outcomes will include:
A shared understanding of how legal frameworks apply to common AI scenarios such as profiling, automated decision-making, model training, and data sharing.
Practical guidance for organisations on building “responsible AI” practices into their data protection and ICT strategies.
Policy and regulatory recommendations to support innovation while safeguarding privacy, fairness, and human rights in Ghana’s evolving AI ecosystem.
