About Event

Our very first “AI for Social Good” Meetup!

How can AI move from being a "world-saving" buzzword to a practical tool for the social impact space? While this technology is evolving rapidly, there is a massive gap in understanding the social, environmental, ethical, and governance implications of large scale deployment of artificial intelligence tools. Thinking through and solving implementation challenges together is key to ensure it benefits the most people broadly.

Already, we are seeing what is possible: AI is helping detect early signs of disease in underserved communities that lack access to specialists, supporting climate scientists in tracking deforestation in real time, and helping small nonprofits automate grant research so their teams can focus on the work that matters most. But getting there responsibly, equitably, and effectively is not simple.

Join us for our first AI for Social Good meetup as we aim to democratize AI fluency in the social impact community. Angela and Paulina will kick things off with a few grounding examples of responsible AI in practice. Then we open the floor to you and the problems we think we can, and should solve. Come with your real questions, your blockers, and your struggles around AI adoption, and we'll work through them together.

This is a space for nonprofits and social entrepreneurs to ask every AI question they've been sitting on, learn from each other, and leave with a clearer roadmap for getting started. This is a chance to learn: what does this community want and need when it comes to AI for social good?

Anew is a gathering space and discovery center for the social impact community.

Angela Ng is the Director of Business Innovation at Carnegie Mellon University, where she has spent nearly five years leading sustainability, AI, and innovation programs across CMU's global campuses. With a decade of international development experience, spanning water and sanitation in Bangladesh and the DRC, maternal and child health in India, and disaster resilience across Africa and the Middle East, she brings a grounded, field-tested lens to emerging technology. She is passionate about responsible AI adoption in the social sector and is actively exploring how AI can drive climate action, health innovation, education strengthening, economic mobility, and equitable access at scale as a Globethics AI Emerging Leaders Fellow.

Paulina Muñoz is the author of Do Good Capital, a newsletter at the intersection of technology, investing, culture, and social impact. Her path from international policy to investment banking at HSBC, venture capital, and impact investing has given her a rare, cross-sector view of how capital flows — and how to redirect it. Today, she puts that into practice as a consultant and project lead at Kind Capital, an impact investing firm where she works directly on connecting capital to the companies and communities that need it most.

Together, Angela and Paulina lead AI for Good NYC, bringing together AI engineers, founders, funders, non-profits, and social entrepreneurs to solve the world’s most pressing problems, responsibly.
