The 120+ people at the Big Holiday Bash on 12/9/25 looked to be having a ball (see photo gallery below). We had people all the way from Loma Linda (70mi, 2hr drive), Orange County, Los Feliz, Pasadena, and South Bay — all driving during rush hour. That's a determined bunch! All 13 schools were once again represented, as were the classes from '85 to '25.
Additionally, the book giveaway was a hit! All the donated books found a home. We even had two books signed by the author, Prof Sonja Lyubomirsky! I'll bring a stack of books again, and you can also bring yours to give away. Just remember that giveaway means you can just take a book you like. Had to explain that a few times.
Once again, we were capacity-constrained. So if you're in the decide-last-minute tribe, please remember that there are 8 times as many people on this list as the venue accommodates. My advice is to get your ticket early (bonus: cheaper that way.) To aid your decision-making process, I've created Incredible Shrinking Coupons™ ACTFAST12, ACTFAST10 and ACTFAST8 (see above).
Several of you were kind enough to let me know about specific friendships and business deals you had forged via All-Ivy LA gatherings. SO glad to hear that, because those kind of stories convince me of these events' benefit to the community. Keep the stories coming, and I'll keep the gatherings going. This testimonial was my favorite, from a first-timer responding to the question: What did you like about the All-Ivy Big Holiday Bash?
"At the tactical level, having "What do you want to talk about?" name tags was excellent. People were really using them and they helped ensure conversation topics that everyone could unite on. But overall I appreciated that everyone I met was smart yet down-to-earth, open to engaging on a wide breath of subjects, and really wanted to make conversations work. Felt like people had the high goodwill level that usually only happens when meeting friends-of-friends through direct intros, rare to achieve in such a large group. Having the backyard to ourselves also made everything feel spacious yet contained.
A friend had invited me to the event and I did eventually meet up with him, but I spent the first few hours solo. I expected that to feel awkward, but it didn't. I also ended up exchanging contact info with essentially everyone I spoke to, which I wouldn't have expected (usually at networking things there are inevitably some conversations that are just clearly not a fit and everyone politely moves on)."
VENUE: We'll be in the back patio of a fun Santa Monica restaurant convenient to the 10 Freeway. Expect tasty food, cozy fire pits, reasonably priced drinks, extended happy hour, magic name tags, and conversational prompts to aid the interactivity.
OFFER/ASK BOARD: If you'd like to participate in our Offer/Ask board, fill out those fields in your Luma registration form. This is a proven way to get in the spirit of service and build community.
OPTIONAL BOOK GIVEAWAY: If you have a book you really like but are unlikely to re-read and want to give away, bring it to open up some room on your shelf and in someone's heart :)
And for first-timers: Why attend an All-Ivy LA event, you ask? Here are some reasons that come to mind:
• You like having conversations with smart, educated, curious people. At All-Ivy LA events, In every direction of the compass, you will find someone interesting and welcoming to talk to.
• You want to make some new friends. We build relationships through repeated contact, so keep coming! Your next BFF is in here somewhere. Some people who met 3 years ago at All-Ivy are still friends.
• You want to find a life partner. Most All-Ivy members are single. What better place to connect meaningfully with like-minded people without dealing with the hassle of a date and the nonsense of the apps? This is the most likely place to find your future ex-spouse.
• You want to advance your business interests. Whether you're looking to raise funds, invest in a venture, find a new gig, or hire someone qualified, the All-Ivy LA network is a great place to start. Magic happens when a bunch of bright, ambitious, and kind people come together.
Recent guests have included: art dealer, patent lawyer, dental school prof, b-school prof, theoretical physicist, venture capitalist, biotech founder, multiple NASA and SpaceX scientists, public-health filmmaker, animal roboticist, luxury realtor, all kinds of grad students, and White House economist. In other words, hundreds of seriously legit people like yourself! Check out the latest photo album and our Instagram page.
Non-Ivy guests: You're welcome to purchase up to one extra ticket for a companion who's not an alum of one of the listed schools.
Parking: Street parking free after 6pm. Should be able to score free parking within a 2-block radius of the venue.
NOTE: NO REFUNDS. Pretend like you're going to a concert or the theater — when you buy the ticket, it's yours. If your plans change, you're welcome to transfer unused tickets to someone else or use it at a future event, but remember — NO REFUNDS.
