About Event

Showcase by Beta Mahatvaraj.

The Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are home to an extraordinary diversity of freshwater fish, many found nowhere else on Earth. These ecosystems are under severe threat from pollution, habitat loss, invasive species, and unsustainable human activities. Most urban citizens remain unaware of the richness of this biodiversity—or how their daily choices directly impact it.

We use underwater photography as an engaging entry point to explore the fishes of the Western Ghats, raise awareness about the threats they face, and equip urban citizens with practical ways to contribute to their conservation.

Event Flow:

  • Underwater Photography Segment – Basics, techniques, and conservation storytelling

  • Main Session –

    • Introduction to the Western Ghats and freshwater habitats

    • Iconic and endemic fishes

    • Threats to biodiversity

    • Everyday citizen actions and conservation opportunities

  • Q&A and call to action
