πβ¨ How to Change Our Minds: Exploring Intentional Use of Psychedelics from Antiquity to the Present
βRecently, there has been a resurgence of interest in psychedelics in fields such as neuroscience, therapy, and collective healing. We aim to explore the intentional use of psychedelics in community from antiquity to the present.
βInspired by Brian C. Muraresku's groundbreaking book The Immortality Key which shows evidence of LSD-like substances used in ancient Greece and early Christianity for mystical rites of passage, as well as in indigenous cultures (psilocybin mushrooms, Ayahuasca, peyote, Ibogaine, etc), this workshop will explore the value of using psychedelics in group settings for connecting us to deeper questions around the nature of existence. We will explore how such experiences can contribute to both individual and collective healing, foster meaning (in the sense of the philosopher John Vervaeke), and encourage spiritual growth by teaching skillful navigation of ego dissolution for spiritual insight. Our ultimate aim is to bring together like-minded explorers to begin a journey into the inner psyche, both individually and together.
βYour co-hosts are Nina (currently starting a project about the sociology of psychedelics inspired by her mentor Michael Pollan), Jacob Brawer (neuroscience of psychedelics at Stanford), Gabby White (dreamworker and interpreter of the collective unconscious), and Aaron Meyer (resident experienced psychonaut).Β
