Agora Series: Wisdom in the Age of AI
Apollo Innovation Commons with Wisdom Exchange
We have gotten very good at building intelligence and remained fairly bad at cultivating wisdom. The gap between the two is arguably the defining problem of this decade. Capability is compounding on a schedule that the traditions responsible for discernment, judgment, and care have never had to keep pace with before, and those traditions are older and stranger and slower than anything on a product roadmap.
This gathering brings together three groups working on that gap from different angles. Apollo Innovation Commons builds the civic infrastructure where these conversations can happen across fields. Wisdom Exchange works in the lineage of contemplative and wisdom traditions. Positive AI Labs develops metatheory frameworks of wisdom in direct collaboration with frontier AI labs, which is to say they are doing the unusual work of translating between contemplative depth and technical practice.
We will spend the afternoon on questions like these. What the wisdom traditions actually know that the current conversation about alignment has yet to absorb. Whether wisdom can be formalized, and what is lost in the attempt. What it would mean to develop these systems from a place of maturity rather than acceleration. And what practices might help the people building this technology stay whole while they do it.
Come with your own tradition, discipline, or skepticism. All three are useful here.
Space is limited. Please cancel your RSVP if your plans change.
