Poems That Don't Suck with Megan Falley

​Megan Falley, creator of the acclaimed six-week Poems That Don't Suck workshop, is teaching a rare, one-time 90-minute session (plus 30 min Q&A) on revision.

​This is not a generative workshop. Megan believes writing and editing require two different selves: the writer works best alone and unobserved, while editing can be collaborative. Her method interviews both poet and poem. What are you trying to say? What is the poem actually saying? Where's the gap? Then she works to close that distance without sanding down your voice.

​The class runs fishbowl-style: a few pre-selected participants bring their poems to the center for live, one-on-one editing while the group observes and learns to spot what's working, what's in the way, and how to revise their own work.

​You don't need to be workshopped to benefit. Everyone leaves with sharper revision instincts.

• ​I'm unable to join live. Will the event be recorded?
  Yes! The event will be recorded and shared with ticket-holders via email the following day. The recording will be available for 30 days after the workshop.

• ​How can I participate during the event?
  You will be joining a Zoom Meeting for this event. We encourage you to have your camera on, but remain muted until prompted. We also recommend that you come prepared with writing materials!

• ​I live outside the U.S. Can I still join?
  Yes! We have many international members in Sustenance. We'd love to see you there no matter where you're tuning in from.

​BIO:

​Megan Falley is a queer femme writer, poet, and speaker whose work explores grief, the body, and the complicated ways we learn to love both. She is the author of three full-length poetry collections, including Drive Here and Devastate Me, hailed by Autostraddle as “a love letter to the queer community.” In 2019, she co-authored How Poetry Can Change Your Heart with her spouse, Andrea Gibson, for Chronicle Books.

​Falley and Gibson are the subjects of the Academy Award–nominated, Peabody Award–winning documentary Come See Me in the Good Light, which chronicles their love and the final year of Gibson’s life. Falley served as Creative Director of Love Letter from the Afterlife at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, where she also performed before a sold-out audience of 10,000 people.

​Falley now writes and curates Things That Don’t Suck, the Substack publication she inherited from Gibson and has continued since their death. Reaching more than 200,000 readers, it is currently ranked #2 among Substack’s Rising in Culture publications and #11 among its Culture bestsellers.
