Varispeed showcases ambient and experimental sound artists in unique acoustic environments around the city. Inspired by the playback-altering tool, I invite you to join us for a night of durational sets that extend above and beyond the infrasonic.
(ARGO) is the ambient musical alias of Pablo González, a New York based artist who explores the transience of sound through reverb, looping, pop deconstruction, and atmospheric audio journeys. Drawing inspiration from ambient pioneers, electronic minimalism, and the evocative qualities of film scores, ARGO’s work transcends traditional song structures, alluring listeners into immersive sound environments.
Paramax is an entity of Maxi Glenn's spanning sound installation, composition, and production. Their research has to do with somatic memory, channeled through the haptic threshold between sound and sub. Maxi currently repurposes DJ gear to disrupt norms of audio reproduction, altering the sense of space between sound source and listener.
Additionally, Paramax created a special installation for Reforesters' sound system featured at the beginning of each night:

as sound is reproduced, it becomes. it is an experience and we understand it through such terms. the building blocks of sound aren’t tangible, motionless, materials but rippling particles, vibrating instruments, sociocultural meanings, and physical bodies summed together in the motion that this experience is.
when i perform, my favorite instrument are the walls. they rattle with subby waves, my quiet thunderstorm, a massage of sound. the walls make it make sense. they give the piece the shape of the space around us; the real, immutable structure is suddenly the very same frequency as us. vibrations become the space, changing it constantly, changing us, too.
