In Denmark, children don’t just learn to ride bikes, they play their way into it. The Danish model focuses on playful exploration, developing a lifelong love of biking without pressure or fear.
Yet in many parts of the world, a different story is unfolding where screen dependence and limited physical activity are the norm.
So, we pose the question: How can we embrace this successful model in places that lack the infrastructure, culture, or funding to support it?

Amanda Padilla is an architect, urban planner, and designer, who has collaborated with Urban Cycle Planning of Denmark on cycling projects in Quito, La Habana, and Copenhagen.
She is head of the Cycling Games project in Ecuador, involving small children in urban mobility.
Amanda is also a representative of Quito on the Bicycle Major Network Program of the BYCS organisation.
