Artwrld VIP: Elliott Hundley, Book of Sand
Josh here. I'll be hosting an irl tour of Elliott Hundley's exhibition with the artist at Regen Projects. Elliott is a world class artist but this is also an opportunity to try out some new Artwrld features. Hope you can make it! - Josh
Elliott Hundley is a world renowned painter, building worlds you have to walk up to. Pins, paper cut-outs, string, encaustic, found objects, all accumulated without a plan until something surfaces.
Book of Sand is his seventh solo show with Regen Projects and the first drawn entirely from his own interior universe rather than Euripides or Rilke.
The exhibition takes its structure from Jungian sandplay therapy, where figurines in a tray of sand let the unconscious become visible.
Certain paintings here are framed like sand trays. The gallery itself becomes the tray, the works arranged as figures inside it. A tapestry incorporates pieces of the veil Hundley's mother wore at her wedding.
