As Above, So Below II: Sunset Shade
Experience As Above, So Below, the latest exhibition by The Ritual Division, with a sunset initiation of a brand-new artwork.
Curator Taylor C. Black opens with a short talk about the works on view, and how they are drawn together around themes of interference--material, political, and cosmological. Then, the shade dragon parades to our rooftop for a live sunset performance of the ritual of "skinning" a shade structure, enacted by The Ritual Division crew members and friends. This act is performed in keeping with the material and folk craft tradition that informs Shenclave Actual, Ian Henderson's newly-commissioned installation on view in our gallery that honors the workers who are part of this "self-initiating secret society." Setting the distinctive cloth on our rooftop structure marks the final gesture to add this new artwork to our exhibition.
After the performance, we'll celebrate with drinks, music, and opportunities to learn more about and support the ongoing series of clandestine ritual enactments that this artwork furthers.
