🌿 Health from an Eastern Perspective: Ayurveda
While Western perspectives on medicine and health often excel at treating acute issues, like a broken bone or infection, Eastern approaches excel at describing what it means to be holistically healthy, throughout one's entire being, and then mapping out the path to getting there.
Ayurveda is one such approach - it's the Indian medical system dating back 3,500y+. It's benefited my personal health enormously, and it's also taught me an immense amount about what health is and how to achieve it. This event brings in the person who's taught me all of that - Dr. Jessica Vellela.
Jessica is IMO one of the best Ayurvedic doctors in the US. She was born/raised in Boston, and spent the early part of her career as a database engineer, before becoming attracted to holistic healing systems like Ayurveda. She eventually found herself in India, where she studied Ayurveda full-time for 5.5y, eventually receiving a medical degree and becoming a licensed Ayurvedic Physician in India, where the Ayurvedic healthcare system is state-recognized and runs in parallel to the Western system. She was the 2nd American to ever graduate from an American Ayurvedic university, which is part of why I think she's such a valuable resource - she's managed to bridge the gap between East and West; translating the Indian science of Ayurveda into operational terms that Westerners can take in and get value from.
She'll be speaking about what Ayurveda is, for those who are brand new; describing the Ayurvedic perspective on health, and talking about how to make steps towards that state of health. I think this will be a really enlightening event for all, and am very excited!
