Visible Mending Workshop Julahas X De Steek
Give your well-loved clothes a new lease of life.
Join us during the Julahas Amsterdam pop-up for a hands-on Visible Mending Workshop with De Steek, where you’ll learn simple, creative techniques to repair, personalise and keep wearing the clothes you already love.
Over the course of three hours, we’ll start with the basics — from simple hand stitches to sewing on a button — before putting those skills into practice. Bring along a garment that could use a little love and you’ll have time to work on your own repair with guidance from the De Steek team.
Never mended anything before? We don't mind! No previous sewing experience is needed.
What’s included
All the basic tools and materials you’ll need during the workshop will be provided, including needles, thread, yarn and fabric scraps to practise on. We will also serve coffee/tea/cookies while you work.
You’ll learn:
Essential hand-sewing stitches
How to sew on a button
Simple visible-mending techniques
How to patch and repair a garment
Ways to turn a repair into a feature rather than something to hide
What to bring
Bring one item of clothing that you’d like to mend (optional).
If you don’t have anything that needs repairing, don’t worry. Fabric scraps will be available so you can practise the techniques during the workshop.
Take the skills home
De Steek’s Visible Mending Repair Kits will also be available to purchase separately after the workshop for €15.95. Each kit contains the tools and materials you need to continue mending at home, including Sashiko thread and needles, scissors, seam ripper, measuring tape, chalk, pins, buttons, fabric and De Steek’s repair booklet.

Places are intentionally limited to 12 participants so there’s plenty of time for individual guidance.
