LESSONS FROM THE GREAT BOOKS: THE PRINCE
BOOK OVERVIEW
“The Prince” by Niccolo Machiavelli is one of the most controversial writings in history. Within the 150 pages are strategies for acquiring and maintaining power, buttressed with analyses of the actions of great rulers of antiquity. In 1559, The Prince was banned by the Catholic Church, condemned for its disregard for Christian ethics. Today, The Prince elicits commentary and invites study, for it poses the age old issues pertaining to leadership and power.
