It's a painful process - removing ourselves from nature.

The feral aesthetic is often viewed as neglect instead of natural. In this workshop we look at shaved lawns, trimmed hedges, blooming brows and mowed legs. Cultural norms, environmental needs and aesthetic trends shape the way we maintain the nature around us. Weeding and waxing are a form of care and maintenance but where does this need to control come from and to what does it lead?

We will move in between different areas of a (semi) maintained green space. Noticing similarities between the maintenance of urban (green) spaces and of the growth of our bodies.

Topics: Eco-feminism, urban management, care work, feral ecology, weeds, eco-feminism, maintenance as resistance, aesthetics, multispecies urbanism
