Climate Walk: Healing Forest Walk & Garden Social
Join us for a fun guided ecological walking tour of Manhattan Healing Forest, New York City’s miniature forest nestled along the southern tip of Roosevelt Island! 🌳
This miniature forest, about the size of a tennis court, was planted in 2024 and features approximately 1,500 native trees and plants across 47 species, including Eastern White Pine, Beach Plum, Wild Black Cherry, and New York Fern.
Why this forest matters:
Crafted using the Miyawaki method, this dense planting approach accelerates growth, fortifies biodiversity, and creates a self-sustaining urban ecosystem in mere decades
It acts as a natural seawall, buffering against storm surges, erosion, and runoff, while capturing water and improving air quality
It has deep cultural resonance: local Lenape community members contributed to its design and even planted the very first tree, inviting spiritual and ecological healing
