About Event

ISLAA welcomes a body of archival material documenting the history of the New York Graphic Workshop, donated by Ursula Dávila-Villa, and invites the public to explore its significance with her on Thursday, October 15. In a presentation and conversation titled “The New York Graphic Workshop: From Archive to Collection,” Dávila-Villa will reflect on the Workshop’s history, the formation and preservation of its records, and the ways archival material can support new research. The program accompanies ISLAA’s exhibition The New York Graphic Workshop: Towards Total Art and considers how the Workshop’s history continues to be studied and shared. The program will connect this recent addition to ISLAA’s research resources with the exhibition’s presentation of the Workshop’s artistic production, while introducing audiences to the archive as a living source for future scholarship.

The program takes place alongside The New York Graphic Workshop: Towards Total Art, currently on view at ISLAA. Together, the exhibition and Dávila-Villa’s presentation create an opportunity to encounter the Workshop through artworks and archival sources, and to consider how its history can be revisited by new generations. The presentation will last approximately 20 minutes, followed by conversation and audience Q&A. A reception will follow from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. The program is free and open to the public; advance registration is required. It offers visitors a chance to approach the New York Graphic Workshop through both the works on view and the documentary record that sustains deeper inquiry into its history.
